The main objective of the LMDIT project

Expanding research infrastructure

The project directly aims at the development of technological research infrastructure. We are rapidly expanding the competencies of the specialized laboratory of electrotechnical materials. These are intended for new vital activities of continuous monitoring. They also serve for the exact diagnosis of the condition of the equipment.

We aim at precise evaluation of the insulation condition for transformers. A strong infrastructure ensures scientific results at European standards. The laboratory considerably increases its internal analysis capacity. ICMET Craiova thus becomes a recognized pole of expertise.

The importance of insulation diagnosis in transformers

Power transformers are vital equipment in the national energy system. Their safe functionality depends heavily on the quality of the internal insulation. The condition of the insulation degrades over time due to thermal stresses. Electrical and mechanical stresses contribute to this continuous wear. A correct diagnosis prevents major defects and accidental interruptions.

Constant monitoring of the insulation condition drastically reduces maintenance costs. This way we avoid the premature replacement of these very expensive equipment. Through this project we equip the laboratory with modern testing instruments. This way we ensure an objective and rigorous assessment of the service life. We can offer the industry state-of-the-art technical solutions.

The role of the electrotechnical materials laboratory

The Electrotechnical Materials Laboratory plays an absolutely essential role in research. Here, the physicochemical properties of transformer insulation are carefully tested. The expansion of the competences of this laboratory allows for much more precise analyses in the future. Our specialists can quickly assess the degree of aging of the analyzed materials.

The modern equipment purchased ensures the obtaining of very reliable scientific results. We are thus validating new testing methods and advanced diagnostics for the network.
