ICMET Craiova participation in the 14th edition of ICATE 2018
Our institute participated in a highly prestigious scientific event. It is the international conference on theoretical and applied electrical engineering. The event is known in academia as ICATE 2018. This was the fourteenth edition of this important conference. The event took place right in our city of Craiova. The period was between October 4 and 6, 2018. ICMET researchers presented exceptional results in front of specialists. We presented scientific papers that address extremely current topics. The electrical engineering field requires modern solutions for monitoring and analysis. Collaboration between research and academia is fundamental for progress. We are happy to be hosts and active participants at this level.
Continuous monitoring and analysis of power systems
The first paper presented aims at monitoring overhead power lines. This proposes measuring the slope to determine the sag of transmission cables. The authors are Dumitru Sacerdotianu together with Marcel Nicola and Claudiu-Ionel Nicola. Florica Lazarescu also contributed to the realization of this complex study. The second paper analyzes the quality of energy through advanced calculation methods. The system uses LabVIEW Real-Time technology and reconfigurable FPGA modules. This team includes Marcel Nicola and Sebastian Popescu. Dumitru Sacerdotianu and Marian Duta made essential technical contributions here. These systems allow a very detailed analysis of disturbances in the networks. The operational safety of the national energy system is thus greatly improved.

Innovation in drive systems for electric motors
The third paper presented at ICATE 2018 focuses on induction motors. The central subject is represented by brush lifting systems. These are used for high-power wound rotor motors. The authors of this research are Adrian Vintila and Fevronia-Despina Roman. The proposed solutions optimize the operation and maintenance of these rotating electrical machines. Technical innovation reduces component wear and increases the lifespan. All these results confirm our leading position in electrotechnical research.
