- Direct leadership: Engineer Adrian Vintila.
- Main thematic area: Energy efficiency.
- Secondary thematic area: Electricity saving.
Main objectives of the LIUE project
Composite insulators are absolutely vital components in modern electrical networks. They offer superior performance compared to older ceramic insulators. However, these equipment are subject to severe environmental stresses. The appearance of marks and erosion can quickly compromise the safety of the network.
The project aims to complete the construction of a specialized laboratory. It will directly serve the testing of traces and erosion. We are aiming for the immediate accreditation of this laboratory to high standards. The measurable objectives are the construction of the laboratory and obtaining the RENAR certificate.
Development stages and documentation
Stage I (Year 2006)
Activity: Study of the requirements of the European standard for technical documents.
Period: 10.08.2006 – 30.11.2006
Total amount: 44,670 lei
Stage II (Year 2007)
Activity: Developing the complex technical project for the new functional model.
Period: 01.12.2006 – 30.05.2007
Total amount: 145,270 lei
Stage III (Year 2007)
Activity: Execution of equipment, experimentation and submission of documentation for RENAR accreditation.
Period: 31.05.2007 – 15.10.2007
Total amount: 653,407 lei
Stage IV (Year 2008)
Activity: Dissemination of the final results of the project and effective accreditation.
Period: 16.10.2007 – 30.01.2008
Total amount: 52,000 lei
Technical impact and economic opportunities
Technical impact and product quality
After the design of the composite insulators, the testing stage is absolutely mandatory. This phase fully complies with the strict requirements of the EN 62217 standard. At this stage, both the qualities and the defects are identified. The accredited laboratory will determine the development of products that are perfectly compliant with the standards.
Economic impact on the European Union market
Romanian companies cannot technically afford to build their own laboratories. The development of an independent laboratory is a necessity for the national economy. Certification of compliance with the adopted norms requires clear and transparent tests. Without reports issued by an accredited laboratory, the CE marking is prohibited. Without this marking it is impossible to enter the European market.
Beneficiaries and social development
Potential users are the companies IPROEB Bistrita, Eximprod Buzau and Recomplast Buzau. The list also includes the company Maira Montaj from Bucharest. The new laboratory provides technical support to Romanian economic agents in this field.
This support ensures new local investments and generates jobs. The range of composite insulated electrical equipment will diversify rapidly. Within our institute, the ability of researchers will increase considerably. We will be much more easily involved in large-scale projects.
